Snow, snow, and more snow

Since Thursday, we've received nearly a foot of snow! The city finally learned its lesson and started pretreating and plowing quickly. Some of the streets still aren't really clear, but all the major thoroughfares and many important side streets are. That doesn't mean getting your car is easy. Julia said that there was snow 3/4 the way up Buster's hubcaps this morning. So, we are going to look into whether or not there is any room in the building's garage for us to rent. We'll see.

With all the snow we were having (and the lack of confidence in the city to make the streets safe), we elected not to go anywhere. So, we stayed home and watched the extended release of Return of the Kings this weekend. AND all of its extras. We didn't watch the commentary, primarily because everything was just too intense to do back to back on this. All I can say is WOW!

We are getting things back on track after the holiday vacation. I still need to finish taking down decorations, but wasn't feeling steady enough (with aching joints) to climb the step ladder to get the stuff from around the windows. Hopefully, I will be able to do so this week, although our temperatures are about the plunge again (possible below 0 temperatures at the end of the week -- yikes!). Boy am I glad I work from home right now.

I'm assured there was snow yesterday; some of the higher elevations around town apparently got some. But down by the Needle, where I live, nothing but freezing rain.

On the other hand, Snoqualmie has finally been getting decent snowfall, so it looks like Wednesday night skiing lessons will start only one week late!

The ski resorts around here are enraptured by this snow. They might not lose money this season!

But that doesn't make driving here any more fun. I drove home from dance practice Thursday night in 4 inches of unplowed, powdery snow. I could get going and control the direction I was headed, but stopping was a little more difficult. Not too much so for me, I learned to drive in worse than this (coming from the snowbelt and all).

That is the part that makes me nervous - I can handle myself fairly well in snow, thanks to Western PA, but my understanding is that it's not a common skill around here and that makes me worry about being on the road with other drivers...

This is why I hate winter in the DC FedroSplat. Too many people don't know how to drive in our traffic in general to start with. Add slush or freezing rain (our two most typical types of winter precip) and you might as well park your car in the driveway and wait for April.

I did leave the car parked in December and it still got hit! It's all fixed now.

I knew you'd regret moving away from western PA. We don't get nearly as much snow here. Been a while since I've hear anything from you. Hope you're doing well.
