I hate my computer
Nov. 9th, 2004 12:42 pmUPDATE:
I seem to have gotten Word to work. I needed to turn off my print spooler. Not only was it causing Word to freeze when I tried to print, but I couldn't use any dialog boxes in Word (such as Fonts, Insert Special Character, Options, etc.) without Word freezing up. Turned of the print spooler and this went away. I wish I knew what I could do (short of reimaging my HD) that would fix this. Grumble.
Last week, MS Word stopped printing and started hanging when I would try. Then Netscape won't connect to servers once I close and reopen it (but worked after reboot). So, I uninstalled and reinstalled Office/Netscape and the print driver, got Norton Utilities, utilitied my computer, uninstalled Office and Netscape, utilitied my computer and reinstalled Office and Netscape. Result: Netscape still won't connect to servers if my system has gone to standby, and MS Word hangs. I don't even get a chance to print. The toolbars aren't loading correctly or anything. ARRRRGGGHHH! Looks like I need to strip the machine and start from the OS. Ack!
On top of all this, I'm still feeling like crap with this cold. Irritated sinuses, headaches, upset tummy (from sinuses) -- not fun.
*Sigh* I just needed to take care of a sniffling cat. Sable has had sinus problems since shortly after we got her. Days after finishing antibiotics for a sinus infection, she would be sniffling and sneezing again. I think it's really just allergies. The vet told me to give her infant nose drops. Over the past year, she's gotten so used to me squirting stuff in her nose or mouth (or both) that she just sits there, let's me tilt her head up and put the drops right in -- no muss, no fuss.
Then I picked her up and brought her in here. I tried to put her on my desk but she was caught in my sweater and flopped onto the desk on her side, upending my glass of water. Fortunately (or un-) it went off the side of the desk and not toward the computer. However, she got really upset and thought I was mad at her. So I cleaned up the spill and comforted the kitty. Now Vandal was just comforting her too. It was really sweet.
Guess I have a lot more computer work to do if I want this box functioning properly again.
