We went to dance last night -- it's held biweekly. The dance master is quite inexperienced and hasn't seemed to have figured out how to either:
  • Prepare dances he wants to teach

  • Ask someone else (there are three, possibly four, who can teach more dances than he knows) to teach

And this leaves us standing around for 10 minutes or so while he decides what to do. After about ten minutes, someone asks what we're doing next and he asks us what we want to dance. Like, what was he doing for the last ten minutes??? Hmmm???

Julia is finding this more aggravating than I am, but part of that is because when there is a break, I go talk to the MoAS, who is also the culinary guildmistress. It's not helping that the dancemaster seems to prefer some pretty clunky period dances and even worse non-period ones and has little to no style. He seems afraid of anything that's not ECD. Grrmph. Last night, when I asked for non-partnered dance (because we had an odd number of dancers) he said he didn't know any. I suggested that we could do a bransle, like Charlotte. Well, Julia taught it, but the DM didn't dance because he was having a problem with his foot. I guess it only affects him during bransle or something. I miss BMDL dance practices!
