We can live with 370
Dec. 23rd, 2005 10:07 pmWooohoooo!!!!! Vandal's blood sugar came down to 370 today!!! That's down from a high of 539 -- 600 is considered quite dangerous. We didn't increase his insulin because he has started to respond and it can take up to a week for the response to start.
We are so lucky we caught this. It seems clear to us (but we aren't vets) that we probably caught this very early. Julia had noticed last week that he was drinking and peeing more than normal. She took him to the vet who tried to reassure her that he was just an old cat. He needed his thyroid followup blood test, so they ran a panel. And the vet was shocked. If we hadn't done that, the person who would have been looking in on him probably would have found him dead, comatose or seizing -- none of which would have been good.
Well, it's getting late and we need to go to bed soon. Vandal gets stabbed at 7 and 7 each day. This spring is going to be quite interesting as we try to adjust to getting meds into him and going to events. But we can't complain too much.
We probably won't update until after the holiday weekend is over so:
