First week
Apr. 29th, 2007 05:27 pmWe've spent our first week in our house. It's been great!
Today we planned to mow the lawn for the first time this year only to discover that the mower that was left behind doesn't seem to work. We've got a couple of solutions to try this week; if they don't work, I guess we'll be buying a new mower. *sigh* Starting up a house has a lot of expenses you don't have with an apartment.
We finally have a curtain up at the sleeping porch. We had some privacy in so far as the sleeping porch is about eight feet or so deep, so you couldn't seen in from the street and seeing across the street isn't terribly easy. But I'm happier with the curtain. Julia is happy that I now use a sleeping mask because we could get white curtains and she won't feel like the bedroom is a cave.
The cats are settling in nicely. Vandal seems to have decided that this isn't a huge, multi-level hotel room, but he still isn't exploring too much. Sable is not only exploring, but losing weight we think. I suspect this is because she spends much of the day downstairs while the food is upstairs. She gets so busy people-watching out the picture windows she forgets to eat (or isn't eating out of boredom).
I am settling in nicely as well. I only have one more box of kitchen stuff to unpack and most of what is unpacked has a place to be. Unfortunately, I overdid it yesterday between finishing moving, cleaning the apartment, and cleaning the yard up. I am SORE and having spasms (which have responded well to only one dose of meds). Tonight I am cooking a REAL DINNER in my new kitchen. I love the dishwasher -- not only will my pots and pans fit, but I don't have to run it after every meal to keep up!!!!!!!!! And the dishes get clean!!!!! Bliss!!!!!!!!
The next rooms to finish are the bathrooms. They are relatively quick unpack jobs, so I'll probably get them done after work this week.
