Hiouse stuff
May. 6th, 2007 08:15 pmThis weekend was filled with house stuff. Yesterday we unpacked several boxes of books and reorganized the library somewhat. The fiction is almost all put away. In addition, we think we have places for all the heraldry and scribal (the herbal/gardening/cooking stuff is already in the kitchen), but we need to sit down and figure out how to organize the rest of the books. Most must go into Julia's study. *sigh*
Today was getting the lawn mowed for the first time since we moved in! Mowing is Julia's job -- I take care of the rest. We needed to get a new mower; the old one isn't running. It's probably just a matter of getting fresh gas and oil in the mower, but we don't have anything big enough to take it for service. In addition, I really wanted to mulch the clippings, so I wanted an electric one. One of our friends is willing to put the time and effort into fixing the old one, so I think we're going to give it to her. I aerated several areas of the yard that were sort of brown or not growing well. I also pulled more weeds from the garden, and found a flower bed underneath foot high grass!! Wow! I think they actually had had herbs or somesuch but the grass had thoroughly choked them to death.
Needless to say, both of us are sore-shouldered and tired this evening. But we both feel that we got a LOT done this weekend. Unfortunately, there is still a lot left to do. I can't really start on the formal garden till we have a grasp of how much time what landscaping is already here will take.
