What I did on my spring break
Mar. 22nd, 2008 03:35 pmThis weekend is a three-day vacation. The office has a "spring floater holiday" that usually coincides with Good Friday. This year Good Friday coincided with the end of finals for Julia, so I'm pretty much on my own for entertainment. This can be good or bad, depending. This year, I decided to be productive.
The good: I have mopped the remainder of the living room (including under the sofa and love seat), swept the dining room, scrubbed the kitchen, gotten all the dishes done, cleaned the downstairs bathroom (scrubbed, cleaned toilet, sink and bathtub), and dusted the living room. I still have the upstairs bathroom to clean and the laundry to do, but I've still got tomorrow.
The bad: I have chapped hands because my standard hand cream is out of stock (I ordered an alternate scented one that should be in this week) and the grocery store stuff just isn't as good (it's Lubriderm, but it isn't strong enough). I also bunged up the knuckle on my right thumb so it keeps popping when I move the tip and aches.
The other: I went to the grocery for salmon yesterday and all they had was frozen. So I got a slab of that, but couldn't have it for dinner as planned. I also got a bone-in leg of lamb. I deboned it, cut it into two roasts (sort of, my deboning isn't too good, so it happened by fiat), froze the larger roast and the bone. I'll use the bone and associated meat fragments in stew at some point.
I rubbed the smaller roast with garlic, salt and pepper and roasted it. I then made an orzo risotto. Take the orzo pasta and add broth to it like you would for risotto. Don't forget to stir constantly. Then I added some romano cheese. Oooh, yummy. I sauteed broccoli and yellow squash and put some romano on them too. Score!
