Apr. 19th, 2008 02:44 pmGah, I am soooo tired of this weather. We had a little snow on the shady grass this morning and just had flurries 15 minutes ago. We will probably get more, possibly a little accumulation overnight. Gah, I am sooooo tired of this weather!
Finally saw Juno last night. I don't know why some people claim that the movie is glorifying teen pregnancy. Is her life terribly ruined? No, but for many unwed mothers of reasonable working class it isn't -- even when they keep the baby (several members of my high school graduating class had kids by the time they graduated). And Juno makes hard, but mature decisions. They don't gloss over many of the problems she has during her unremarkable pregnancy (which most pregnancies are). That said, the movie did suffer from many of the common problems of arthouse/indy films made by young filmmakers. Everyone, including the working class parents, read as upper middle class. Juno was a little too mature and self-aware, but not so much so that she wasn't believable. All of the characters except Juno were not as well-rounded as a more experienced/mature filmmaker might have done. But the emotional beats were on target and were not overwrought (as too often happens in mainstream film).
EDIT 3:15: The NWS is actually calling for an accumulation of as much as 3-6 inches by Monday morning. If that happens we could tie the record for amount of snow for a winter. As of April 1, 2008, Spokane had 89.5" of snow, which made this winter the second snowiest on record. The record is 93.5" so it's now within reach. Gah, I am sooooo tired of this weather!
