I am sooo annoyed at Amazon.com right now! I ordered The Coffee House: A Cultural History [Hardcover]by Markman Ellis on December 16. It was supposed to be Christmas gift for Julia. Just before I left for Christmas, I received a note saying it would be delivered until after Christmas. A week or so later, I got a note saying January 2009. In January, I got a note saying April or May. In April-ish, I got a note asking if I wanted to cancel the order; when I said no, they said I wouldn't be able to get it until May. Now my account claims it will ship by tomorrow -- but the customer service rep said the book is not in stock! So, how are they going to ship it????

The kicker is that I have found other sellers who have it in stock. They want $140-150 for it; I ordered it in December for $27. So I'm left feeling like Amazon wants me to cancel the order so they don't have to take a loss on it.

I did call their customer service department. I got some guy with an Indian accent who spoke very fast and had crackly phone service, so he was incredibly hard to understand. He went to great lengths to be as vague as possible about what was going on. He was sending an e-mail to "the appropriate department" so they could "process the order." Huh?? What does that mean; does he mean to say that my order hasn't been processed in five months? He also said it would ship tomorrow. If it's not in stock, how do they plan to do that?

I am superdoubleplusungood about this.
