Well, my mom's ankle break is worse than thought. When reviewing the films today, the orthopedic surgeon found a third break, sort of like a splinter. This is highly indicative of a twisting break (not a good thing). And the break does extend all the way to the ankle joint.
Right now, the plan is to do surgery to insert plates and screws and pins in two weeks. But that might change after the CAT scan next week, when they get to look at the backs of the tibia and fibula and see if there are more breaks (which is distressingly likely at this point). So for the next two weeks, Mom has to sit around with her foot at chest height and periodically wiggle her toes.
And they started her on blood thinners because she'll just be sitting around. They should be delivering a wheelchair tomorrow as crutches are too rough on her joints.
On sunnier news (pun intended), today was quite sunny and 70 degrees. Tomorrow should be nicer and a bit warmer; Saturday slightly cooler with a chance of rain and Sunday and Monday sunny and warmer.
