Today's been a pretty quiet day. I'm working on learning enough about UML to write a resource document about it at work. One of the engineers started it and wanted me to "wordsmith" it. We-e-ll, I've majorly reformatted (his statement "made it more eye-friendly"), and reorganized it some. Now I'm filling in some holes so he can train from it and leave it so someone can use it as a resource when he's away.

It's been interesting -- mostly seeing how different brains apply it. What's going to be quite interesting is that we want to apply this in some really challenging ways. First, we use a LOT of PLCs with ladder logic. Object-oriented programming and UML are just not focused well for that. And we want to integrate non-software type stuff (i.e., mechanical systems) into the models. So we'll be figuring out how to modify the existing systems for that. Once we've done that, I'm going to try to convince my boss that we need to write a white paper on this and get it published.
