Well, the rotorooter guy has come and gone and taken a chunk of money with him. It took four and a half hours for him to get the lines running to the sewer cleared. They haven't been cleared in 10 years -- and when they were, it was with the water jet. The water jet doesn't remove the roots; it just blows everything downstream to the sewer line. So we now have a squeaky clean line.
Unfortunately, the guy who does the drain doesn't do the plumbing. So a second guy came out to fix the pipes that had separated (and alerted us to the problem) under the laundry sink. He's gone and taken more money with him (but not as much as the first guy). But we can now do laundry!!!!!!
Sometime soon, Julia or I need to go down into the basement and put bleach water on the floor to kill all the germs from what backflow we didn't catch. Yuck!
