Life getting back to normal
Nov. 5th, 2004 03:13 pmAs in Julia coming down with her annual fall cold - and I hoping not to get it.
I am still looking for work - the job market here is a bit quiet. If we were in Seattle, I would probably have a job. Probably for Microsoft. Is it worth it? ;>
Vandal is a little stiff with the weather change. He spends most of his day in the same room as I am in because its the only room we heat to 70 during the day. The rest of the house stays a little cool. He's still very thin, will probably always be that way. Even on Kitten Chow he never made it over 9 pounds. I think Sable runs it right off of him. She's keeping him young.
None of you have met Sable, my kitty. I've had her for a little over a year now. I got her last July, three months after Aliera passed away (she died of FIP, a benign little virus unless it mutates -- then its uniformly fatal, but no contagious). Sable is all black except for a triangle on her chin and throat (point at her lip), a spot on her belly and little socks on her feet. She looks like she fell into a paint tray and got splashed. She's named Sable because she feels like a sable paintbrush, not because she's black. In bright sunlight, her fur iridesces with all the colors of the rainbow.
We plan on coming back East for the holidays. We will fly into Pittsburgh (between 12/15 and 12/17 - TBD), spend a day or so there, drive to Meadville and spend a couple of days with my parents, drive to TN and spend a few days with Julia's parents, then drive back to Pgh. We plan to attend Johann and Arianna's New Years brunch (if it's still going on). We will fly back either late on NY day or on 1/2. Does anyone have a little crash space?
RANT BELOW:
Over the past couple of days, I've thought about writing rants about how the news media has enabled GWB and the RNC in propagating their lies and bringing about a second GWB presidency. I even thought about screaming that 49% of the vote doesn't indicate that the Dems are any more out of touch than a measly 51% of the vote means the Reps have a mandate. But then I thought to myself: does anyone even notice? Does anyone even care?
So that brings me to a discussion Julia and I have been having over the last couple of days. What role did religion play in this election. How does someone who isn't a regular churchgoer paint himself as speaker for the faithful and paint a devout Catholic as someone out to destroy Christianity in America? I am interested in your thoughts.
I am stunned by Bush's statements about "Christian values." This is coming from a man who insists he has made no mistakes in Iraq (lie #1), who insists that Saddam Hussein had WMD (lie #2), and who insists that Hussein was connected to the 9/11 attacks (lie #3). He didn't honestly honor his National Guard commitments (maybe that's why so many of the NG are being called to Iraq - to ensure they do?) I was taught that honesty was among the top values of Christianity.
Bush prates about "family values" yet his daughters have had repeated brushes with the law! Yet the USA decided not to elect a man whose daughter is going to med school and will become a quite respectable member of society. Hmmmm! I know whose family has better values.
I know I learned about Christianity from an Independent Fundamentalist group growing up. While they didn't believe in equality of the sexes, most of their other values have firm roots in the Bible. I suggest Mr. Bush read it -- like for the first time.
