Nothing much going on
Feb. 4th, 2005 11:05 amExcept I have two leads for freelance work going on right now. One is a reporting gig for the GLBTQ community here in Spokane -- I'll be talking more in depth with the editor next week. The other is a training/user manual thing with a local GLBTQ computer company -- he's a one-man shop that's been providing training to his customers. He was really glad to hear that he had a bona fide trainer/writer type move into the area. I've got a couple of things I want to follow up on next week.
I was contacted by a recruiter looking for someone to do a gap analysis in Salem, OR, for someone using Interwoven. Hmm, I wonder who could that be? My previous employer who is outsourcing the entire department I used to work in?? That's a possibility.
Anyway, that's what's going on on the money front. I have realized one really cool thing about being one's own boss. When you get the last nice day for the foreseeable forecast (10 days), you can just take off and go enjoy it. So Julia and I did just that yesterday. It was sunny, with light, high clouds, and 50 degree high. So we went over to Idaho to do some scenic drives that have been highly recommended. Lake Pend-Oreille (pronounced ponderay) is gorgeous. It is one of the deepest natural lakes in the world, with depths of over 1000 feet. Yep, 1000 feet. It was formed with during the last Ice Age built up a several thousand foot dam around the Coeur d'Alene area (30 miles east of here) to create Lake Missoula, stretching well into Montana. Well, when the ice dam broke, that water gushed out, creating some very deep lakes in Montana and Idaho and scouring out the Spokane River Valley, the Snake River Valley, and, especially, the Columbia River Valley. That leaves us with some really neat geography in the area to explore.
