Jul. 3rd, 2005 08:35 amWent over to Symmone's yesterday to spend the day sewing. Didn't quite manage that, as we had not laundered the fabric back in Pittsburgh. So we spent most of the day laundering the fabric I had taken over.
While the fabric was being cleaned, we ran out to Wally World (started at Target) and bought a hard top card table. Instead of getting the 36" square, I decided to get the 24x48 rectangle, so it's better for consultation. It was on sale for the 4th.
Once we (mostly she as it was her washer) got the first linen dry, I ironed it, chased the kitties away, laid it out, chased the kitties away, laid down the pattern, chased the kitties away, and cut it out. Then I realized the sleeve was all wrong, but Will (a mundane ecclesiatical tailor -- cool) came over and refit the sleeve. I made a new pattern from that piece. Got all ready to sew, only to discover that the presser foot wasn't on the sewing machine. I haven't found it in all the sewing stuff yet, but I'll keep looking. That said, we have a second machine, but I hadn't taken it. So I have the pieces of a dress, just need to put it together.
The conversation that evening was wonderful. It was nice to talk about costuming with someone who knows what they are talking about, but doesn't have a stick up their ass about it.
