Approximately six weeks ago, there was a triple murder 45 minutes east on I-90. A mother, her boyfriend, and her 13-year old son were found murdered, bludgeoned to death I believe. A very nasty, violent murder. And her 8-year old girl (Shasta Groene) and 9-year old boy (Dillon) were missing. No trace of them was found at the scene. Even though this didn't quite meet the requirements, an Amber Alert was issued for the two of them. In addition, a picture of her was featured on Missing without a Trace last week.

Well, I woke up this morning to a breaking news alert -- the little girl was found alive overnight. Unconfirmed reports of her brother's discovery are hitting the news, but nothing definite yet. This is VERY GOOD NEWS.

The little girl was discovered at the Denny's in Couer d'Alene (the same town it happened in) at 2:00 a.m. Some alert staff there realized her similarity to the picture of the missing girl and called police. The man who had brought her in was arrested on kidnapping charges and charges unrelated to an outstanding arrest warrant. Apparently he had a quite colorful past and is a level-3 sex offender.

The disturbing part is this guy's name hasn't come up in connection with the family and he's from North Dakota. The authorities are still looking for one, but are keeping in mind that this could have been a random crime. The house is visible from the interstate (presumably so is anyone in the yard). These new lines of investigation are very new.

Hopefully, by the end of the day, the brother will also be in police hands.

I'm sitting out a rainshower in San Salvador, and for the first time in days I'm near a not insanely expensive internet connection when it's actually available. What a shock!

The trip's been great. Sunday I head on back to Costa Rica, where I'll disappear into a sucking black void. I'll have phone, but no internet access. The most recent report suggets that there *might* be e-mail service a half hour bus ride away, through...wait for it...the post office.

But I've been having a great time. When I'm back, just before Pennsic, I'll post some pictures.
