Jul. 18th, 2005 04:54 pmThis weekend I drove 3 1/2 hours to be in a 15 minute ceremony. I officially was recognized as LB here. The original plan was for the ceremony to take place in the outgoing royal's closing court, but that got changed Saturday. Then it was scheduled for the event's closing court with the incoming royals on Sunday but I planned to leave much earlier. We did it at the Saturday evening court, which was scheduled to begin after the potluck feast (~7:00 for the feast and 8:00 for court). The court didn't start until after dark (~9:30). The ceremony called for a cup of water to be poured over my head. The water was quite cool (it was warmed by the sun, but had lost its heat) so I yelped when it hit my scalp. And I had gone through the ceremony without my glasses on because I didn't think there would be time to hand them to someone else graciously. After the ceremony I ran back (well, wobbled) to my tent to change into something a little drier and warmer, then returned to court. Court didn't end until after 11.
The site had lots of mosquitos. I have about 12 bites on one shoulder (a 4x4 area) and several more on the other arm and hand. Fortunately, the skeeters decided they couldn't get through my cotehardie and sideless surcoat, so my legs are in pretty good shape.
When I got home yesterday, I was TIRED! And the kitties were snitting at me until this morning. When I was getting ready for work, Sable kept throwing herself in front of the apartment door so I wouldn't leave. Vandal has been throwing himself on me since I got home from work. And I'm still TIRED (even though I went to bed at 9:00).
Julia called last night -- everything is going quite well for her. She is settled into Coopabuena and getting back in touch with friends there.
