Aug. 7th, 2005 07:26 pmI've had a fabulous birthday! Absolutely delicious breakfast, sushi for dinner, lovely gifts, gorgeous weather -- all spent with a wonderful girlfriend!!!! Just fabulous.
Julia got me some really lovely earrings for my birthday. One set is made of cow horn - kind of pointy, oval-shaped with stripes going through; these are from Nicaraugua. The other are a set of basket-weaves from Costa Rica. She also got me a Costa Rica cookbook -- in English -- so I can finally make some of the stuff we liked down there (I've already been getting hints for arroz con pollo -- after Pennsic, I promise!).
We went out for breakfast this morning. I had wanted to go to the dim sum brunch, but it didn't start until 11 and I was hungy by 9:30. Nope, my tummy wasn't going to wait. So we went up to the Old European House for a wonderful, but quite filling breakfast. We split a goulash made of potatoes, zucchini, green and red bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, cheese and eggs and a veggie omelet. I couldn't eat everything, but it was amazing.
Then we went over to Couer d'Alene (1/2 hour away) for the street faire. It was quite nice, if a bit hot. Got to see lots of crafts from local artisans, spent way too much money (I got another pair of earrings -- blue glass -- and two barrettes for my b-day). Cd'A has a surprisingly large artisan population, since it's mostly a resort town (especially for actors like Patty Duke Aston, Sean Aston's mother). We talked to glass-makers, woodworkers, clothing makers, jewelry makers -- pretty much a little bit of everything. I couldn't begin to count the number of antique stores we visited, but it was several. Wish we had a house already so we would have a place that we would need to decorate with all the wonderful furniture we saw.
Then we went out for dinner. The first place we were going to go to wasn't open yet when we wanted to go, the second was closed for a private party, but the third one was just fine. Yummy!
All in all a fantastic day!!!!!!!
