Yesterday was an amazingly good day. I finally got the compressed HTML issue fixed, got my new glasses and went to Arts night for the first time in several weeks -- the first time in several weeks I had the energy to go! Woohoo!

I needed to create a compressed HTML help file as part of the project I am working on (which I think is done, but am waiting to hear whether we are adding another 30 pages of fault codes). I started working on this some on Thursday and Friday, but couldn't get it working. At first, I got the compressed help file created, but some graphics weren't appearing that show up in HTML. I tried adding some graphics files, but then couldn't get the compressed help to open due to errors. So I struggled with the process for ~8-10 hours last week. Well, yesterday, I started it over. This time, I started by doing a lot of stuff without using the wizard and figured out why the compressed help wouldn't work. Then I started looking at all my files, trying to figure out the graphics issue. At one point I was comparing a pre-me version that I knew worked and realized there were some graphics files in there that I hadn't been adding. So I added them, but it still didn't work. Then I remembered that I had added an item to the navigation bar and that I had .gifs for all the other nav bar items but that one. So I created the .gif and added it and -- voila, it worked! So, now I am wondering why IE and FrontPage (I know, client's choice) were displaying the nav bar correctly without that .gif!

I also got my new glasses last night. I like them even better than I thought I would; of course, trying on glasses is always an adventure. I have a focal distance of <6 inches, so I have to get my nose really, really close to the mirror to even get an idea of what they look like. And with no vision on one side, I really don't get the full effect. I try to copy the half of my face I can see and flip it mentally so I can get an idea, but that doesn't work too well. So I end up relying on the optician and hope she is in a good mood (but not a practical joker). The glasses are somewhat different that what I used to wear: they are rectangular not oval, dark purply/blue/gunmetal color and have a different type of lens (aspheric) so they are flatter in front. They look really good, I think.

I went from getting the glasses to getting dinner to Arts night (which was scheduled for 6:00, but I thought it was 7:00 and showed up at 6:30 when the baroness was getting there). Dinner was at a Fusion-Mexican chain called Azteca. I got my usual -- the Shrimp-Chorizo Tequila Chowder. The name doesn't sound all that great, but it really is wondrous. It is made from shimp, chorizo, tomatoes, cilantro and other assorted veggies in a shrimp/tequila/jalapeno/pureed sweet potato (and other veggies, I think) broth. The mix of sweet and spicy is really incredible.

The Arts night class was glass beadmaking. Our baroness got a glass beadmaking kit several months ago (blowtorch, glass, heat protect, glass shapers, mandrels, etc. -- but no safety glasses) and has been playing with it ever since. She decided to introduce her habit to the rest of us. It was relatively easy to get somewhat circular (but a bit uneven) beads on the first couple of tries. However, I don't think that I will be picking up it as a hobby as it really plays to my weaknesses. But it was still neat to create my own beads.

Wow, long entry.
