Today the temperature won't drop below 40. So, of course, the city of Spokane gets overzealous requiring people to move their cars. Apparently it is a violation of city code to leave your car parked in one place for more than 12 hours! In other words, if you drive to work, you must move your car before you go to bed or you will be in violation of the city code before you wake up (unless you work insanely long hours).

I went to get Julia (in Buster) at the bus stop as most of the residential roads were still icy and we had puddles everywhere. Then we went grocery shopping. When we got home, we found this bright yellow paper on Baby's windshield (since it was on most of the cars on the block, I thought it was a flier). It was a notice telling us to move the car or be towed. That was a riot. Our car was plowed in nearly to the top of the hubcaps, snow was deeper than the front bumper and about an inch below the back bumper. Not moving. To top it off, there was nowhere else to park it. We tried parking Buster when we got home on a side street and got caught in snow and slush on the side of the street. To get out of the junk, I had to do a controlled spin of the front wheels to turn the car around so we could drift down the hill. To park in my second choice, I just hit the gas and let momentum send me through the slush and snow (wasn't sure exactly when we would be able to get the car out). Fortunately, the temps stayed warm overnight and much of the roadside stuff is melting. Still took a couple of tries to get Baby out. I'll try moving Buster later today.

Given the snow situation, I called the number on the notice and got a recording. I explained our situation and asked them to call me to advise me on what to do. I still haven't heard back from them (nor, to tell the truth have I seen a tow truck). I also called one of the local TV news programs, who are interested in looking into it. I don't know if they will actually decide to cover it as the snow is melting rapidly, but they might. Who knows?
